Jimmy Joe Maddy, 84, died peacefully Sunday, February 17, 2019, in his Rio Rancho home after extended illness. He was born April 23, 1934, on the 84-acre family farm in Ballengee, West Virginia. The family moved to the Pittsburgh area in 1950 and he graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1951. After working at a few apprentice jobs, he began employment with the Bell Telephone system in 1952. He worked for the company in Pennsylvania and New Mexico for 38 1/2 years, retiring in 1991. He made many friends as a square dance caller in the area in the 1970s and 80s, and many more playing in the New Mexico Senior Golf Association, where he made a hole-in-one during his first tournament. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his wife of 57 years, Agnes, traveled worldwide upon his retirement. He is also survived by his son Eric, daughter Coleen and granddogs Romeo and Princess Juliette, all of Rio Rancho, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel Maddy, sister Zella Mae and brothers Johnny and Tommie.
