Our community sadly lost one of its finest. On Monday, January 7, 2019, John A. Armijo Jr, lost his battle to cancer at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Rio Rancho, NM, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 15, 1940 in Socorro, NM to Juan and Jesusita (Padilla) Armijo and was the oldest of six siblings. Johnny married Rucila (Chavez) on February 10, 1968 and were blessed enough to celebrate over 50 years of marriage. Together, they had one son, John A Armijo III on November 17, 1968. Johnny proudly joined the National Guard in 1962 and retired after 27 years of service. He also retired from White Sands Missile Range after 40 years. Johnny had the uncanny ability to fix anything and make people smile. His favorite past time was spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Dustin. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, Godfather, brother, cousin, and friend. He will truly be missed by all. Johnny will be given full military honors and will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at a later date. John’s care has been entrusted to Daniel’s Family Funeral Services Socorro Chapel. 309 Garfield Socorro, New Mexico, 87801. 575-835-1530.
