John Abel Baker

John Abel Baker 50, passed away on December 14th at Lovelace Hospital.
He was born on May 13th, 1971, in Albuquerque New Mexico. He lived there most of his life, except for 3 years, prior to starting 1st grade, where he lived in Morro Bay California.          
 
John was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. John was a proud 1989 Graduate of Rio Grande High School.  John was many things to many people. He was a dedicated friend and protector of all the ones he loved.
 
He had thousands of friends in many different social networks and groups. He always tried to make each friendship a special and unique one. John focused on sharing his knowledge and experience in martial arts and self-defense with others, in hopes of keeping them safe. He had a great respect for is country, military, and first responders. John was considered a real-life super-hero. He was a Protector, Collector, Confidant, humble, philosophical, loyal, patriotic, Comedian, Counselor, Artist, Historian, Swordsman, Body builder, Kick boxer, Sparring Partner, Nutritional Consultant, Hiker, Coach (YAFL and Martial Arts), Viking, Steeler, Nose tackle, Baseball, Track, Stagehand, Bouncer, Security guard, Gamer, Podcaster, Trivia expert, and a True Friend. He was a gentle giant with a huge heart, great smile, contagious laugh, and gave big bear hugs. John is loving known by many of his friends as “Big John”, or “Sasquatch” with that gentle “Harry and the Henderson’s” grin.
 
John worked at many places throughout his life: Dairy Queen, Shakers, Checkers, NRG Stages, Movie Sets, Chavez Karate, Jackson Wink MMA, Max Muscle, Coronado Mall (JC Penney Security, Mall Security, and GNC), GameStop, Horse and Angels, Hooters, and Billy’s Long Bar.
Survivors include his son John Baker, Jr., Mother Merlinda Sedillo, sister Norma Moran (Michael), nephew Kenneth Baca, niece Celina Anton (Matthew), great nephew Caden Anton, niece Elliana Moran, and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
 
He is preceded in death by his father Perry Baker, Paternal grandfather John Baker, Maternal grandfather Abel Sedillo, Maternal grandmother Celia (Sally) Sedillo.
 
A memorial service for John will be held Friday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, 4001
