Longtime Farmington resident John Joseph "Jack" Luttrell passed away on March 10, 2009. He was a devoted, loving husband and friend to his wife, Marylou and dedicated, supportive father to his son Bill, daughter-in-law Nina and his daughter, Mary Beth. He was a beloved grandfather and great grandfather to his three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son John Stephen. Jack was the oldest of nine children and he is survived by five siblings Leo Luttrell of Quincy, Illinois, Mary Wessellman of Boonville, Missouri, Ron Luttrell of Montrose, Colorado, Kathy Waller of Boonville, Missouri, and Mike Luttrell of Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Ann McGinn and Irene Wessing and brother Ed Luttrell. Jack was born to Ann and Vincent Luttrell on May 13, 1927, north of Georgetown, Iowa. He lived in Melrose, Iowa and graduated from Albia High School in 1945. Upon graduating, he joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Bennington "CV20" in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Jack attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and then began his long career in the newspaper business. He worked for several newspapers in his career beginning with the Chariton Herald-Patriot - Chariton, Iowa, Cortez Sentinel, Gallup Independent, the Navajo Times before moving to Farmington to work as the Advertising Manager of the Farmington Daily Times in 1969. Jack's love of sports continued to grow through these years as he coached Little League teams in Cortez and Gallup. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Childhaven where Jack was a member of the Board at one time. Jack will be greatly missed by his family, relatives, and friends near and far.
