John (Jack) William McComb, (90) was born in Oakland, CA on December 20, 1920 to Carroll B. and Selma A. (Maude) McComb. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda B. and his beloved daughter, Amanda C. McComb. They were married in Fairfax, VA where their daughter was born. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Ruth Swift of Santa Cruz, CA also he was survived by sister-in-laws Carol Meyer of N.C. Red Merlette and husband John of MT, and Inez and husband Tommy of NJ. Also brother-in-laws Stanley and Gary Miksza, also he was survived by nephews and nieces and grand-nephews and grand-nieces. He was preceded by his parents and brothers, Barron, Louis, and Raymond and sister Mary Henkel. He attended schools in Oakland, CA including University High School where he graduated in June 1938. Jack served with honor in the Second US Marine Division in the South Pacific during WWll and heroically fought in the major battles of Tarawa, Tulagi, Guadalcanal, and the British Solomon Islands. He was honorably discharged from the USMC as mortar sergeant in September of 1945 and from USMCR in January 1950. Jack attended LA School of Art, under the GI Bill, where he studied commercial, technical and illustrative arts. Upon completion of his studies, he moved to Los Alamos where he worked at the lab. After a number of years, he returned to CA to join the Arts department at Aerojet, a military and aerospace contractor. In 1974, Jack joined BDM Corp. in Albuquerque as a Reproductions Manager. In 1975 he was transferred to their new headquarters in Vienna, VA. In 1982, Jack and his family were transferred to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia under BDM��?�s contract with the Royal Saudi Air Force. During their overseas tour of duty, they enjoyed travels to Southeast Asia, Europe and Egypt. Upon return to the states, Jack and his family relocated to Albuquerque. Jack retired from BDM in 1987. In retirement Jack enjoyed lake fishing, travel to visit family and friends in CA. He loved walking the family dogs in the foothills and enjoying the vista of our city. Jack will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor and his warm, compassionate heart. It was his belief of humans��?� duty of stewardship for all the creatures on Earth that inspired his daughter to devote her life to caring for animals. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Carlisle Chapel, Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11am. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in Jack��?�s memory.
