Mr. Jose “Fred” Fred Lopez passed away unexpectedly in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, on October 4th, 2022, at the age of 74 years old.
Fred is survived by his loving wife Sara Lopez of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, his daughter Cheryl Trujillo of Rio Rancho, NM, his son Mark Lopez of Rio Rancho, NM, his grandchildren, Steven Alvarez, Caleb Solano, Adrian Lopez, Anthony Jaden Lopez, Elijah Trujillo, his stepbrother Gabriel Baca, his uncle Sam Lopez, and uncle Boni Lopez, his aunt Lucy Gonzales, his aunt Celia Martinez, his aunt Rita Lopez, his cousin Lydia Moreno. Fred is also survived by his dogs Chica and Luna. Fred is preceded in death by his grandfather Adolfo Lopez, his grandmother Regina Lopez, his father Apolonio Lopez, his mother Rita Lopez Baca, his uncle Joe Lopez, his mother-in-law Victoria Romo, his stepfather Adan Baca, and by his grandmother Cleotilde Zamora.
Fred was born to Rita Lopez Baca and Apolonio Lopez on Thursday, April 22nd, 1948, in Puerto De Luna, New Mexico. He attended Fort Sumner High School and graduated with his Diploma in 1966. Fred joined The United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He served two years and then was honorably discharged with the ending rank of E-4. Fred earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. Fred married Ms. Sara Romo on Thursday, June 5th, 1975, at Nativity Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were married for 47 years.
Fred was a heavy equipment operator in construction for 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, watching his favorite football team the San Francisco 49ers play, music, and dancing. Fred was an active member of The American Legion and The Church of Incarnation.
Pall Bearers: Mark Lopez, Boni Lopez, Steven Alvarez, Caleb Solano, Pat Cowan, Gabriel Chavez, Gilbert Velasquez, and Robert Apodaca. Honorary Pall Bearers: Alan Angel, Jason Aragon, Gerald Romo, Gabriel Baca, Elijah Trujillo, Adrien Lopez, Anthony Lopez, and Vincent Castillo.
Services will be held on Monday, October 17th, 2022, at Church of Incarnation, located at 2309 Monterrey Rd. Ne, Rio Rancho, New Mexico, 87144. Viewing will be held from 9:30AM-10:00AM. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:00AM, Mass will follow at 10:30AM. Directly after Mass, Burial will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, located at 4310 Sara Rd. SE, Rio Rancho, NM, 87124, Reception to follow at Elk’s Lodge #2500, located at 1530 Barbara Loop SE, Rio Rancho, NM, 87124. The ceremony will be officiated by Father Leo Ortiz.
