Jose Victor Sandoval, Jr.

Jose Victor Sandoval Jr., 82, of Bloomfield, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at his home. He was born June 3, 1928, in Gobernador, one of 11 children born to Jose Victor Sandoval and Isabel Candelaria. Victor served in 1952, on the front line in Korea with the 7th Division 31st Infantry Division L Company. He fought at Heartbreak Ridge, 598, Sandbag Castle, Jane Russell and the 17th Outpost where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars. He is a lifetime member of Farmington VFW Post No. 2182. He was a great teller of stories and he liked to reminisce about his favorite hobbies: truck driving, hunting, fishing and horse racing. He was a truck driver for most of his life, driving for Boyd Ritchner, Don Ward, Suburban Gas and Doxall. Victor finally retired while employed with El Paso Natural Gas Company. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Juan Sandoval, Aquino Sandoval, S.A. "Tinny" Sandoval; and sisters, Jane Lucero, Alice Svejcara and Elinor Henley. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lupita Sandoval; his children, Manuel Sandoval, Elizabeth Reinhardt (Carl), Donald Sandoval and Albert Sandoval; his grandchildren, Carl Reinhardt III (Betina), Daniel V. Reinhardt (Holly), Lisa Marie Reinhardt and Christian Sandoval; his great-grandchildren, Daniel R. Reinhardt, Collin Reinhardt and Mariska Reinhardt; his brothers, David (Traute), and Frank (Virginia); his sisters, Isabel Garcia and Sally Gonzales; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Victor lived a full life with a great faith in God, and he prayed and sang daily to the Lord, for his many blessings. He had a great devotion to the Santo Niño de Atoche and the Blessed Virgin Mary. His greatest joy was having his family and friends around him. Victor had his loving family and many friends visit him during his illness. Thank you to all who visited and for the gifts of prayer, food, pictures and memories. Your visits brought Victor much joy and happiness. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff for the wonderful care given to Victor, and a special thank you to the Cancer Center and Hospice. Victor's remains will be received at 7 p.m. Friday, June 25, followed by the rosary at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St., in Bloomfield. Mass of Christian Burial, with full military honors by Farmington VFW Post No. 2182, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomfield.
