Josephine A. Turano, 86, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with family by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on July 10, 1938, the daughter of the late Giovanni and Rosalia (Messano) Crudele. Josephine grew up in Brooklyn, where she attended Fort Hamilton High School. She married in 1960 and, with her husband Anthony, raised 4 children. In 1971, she and her late sister Anna and their families traveled across the United States, settling in Albuquerque. Josephine worked for many years as a teacher’s aide, retiring from Albuquerque Public Schools.
She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and was an avid artist with a passion for oil painting, exhibiting her art at shows throughout New Mexico. Josephine enjoyed spending time and holidays with family and friends, and was a devout Christian, serving at her church and hosting Bible studies.
Josephine is survived by her former husband and longtime friend Anthony Turano, and four children: Joseph Turano and wife Karen, and children Sandra, Sharon, and Joseph Jr. and wife Victoria; Jeffrey Turano and wife Melissa, and children Candice Lemons and husband Jason, and Jeffrey, Aubriana, Amaryse and Ava; Paul Turano and wife Monique, and children Justin and Jake; and Karen Ascoli and husband Vincent, and their daughter Samantha. Josephine was a proud and devoted grandmother of 11 beloved great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Daniels Family Funeral Home, 4310 Sarah Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124, with Pastor John Hunt as celebrant. Interment will be private, at Vista Verde Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a Charity of Your Choice, in Josephine’s memory.
Praise the Lord! Happy are those who fear the Lord, who greatly delight in his commandments. Their descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in their houses, and their righteousness endures forever. PSALM 112:1-3
