Josie Winters, the beloved glue of her family, joined Jesus in heaven on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. She passed surrounded by the people who loved her most.

Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Joe and Lola Valencia, Josie eventually moved to Albuquerque, where she met her forever love, Paul Winters. Their marriage was a testament to a rare and unforgettable devotion—a love story that everyone who witnessed it will carry in their hearts. Together, they raised four daughters and a son.

Josie was a caretaker in every sense. For many years, she dedicated herself to her profession in childcare, but her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her work. She was the matriarch for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and a loyal friend to many.

Known for being a "fighter," Josie never backed down from a challenge. She was admired for her straightforward honesty; those who knew her considered her bluntness a distinct and cherished quality. Above all, her love for her family and her faith in Jesus were the pillars of her life.

Josie was preceded in death by her father, her mother, Joe Valencia; Lola Valencia; her brother Paul Valencia, brother Freddie Valencia, her granddaughter, Samantha Chavez; her grandson, Samuel Duda and her son-in-law, Richard “Rick” Decker.

She is lovingly remembered by her children and family:

Donna Winters-Archunde married to Clint Archunde with daughter Alyson; Paula Winters, David Huard, daughter Chelsea Tousley- married to Garret Tousley, with great-grandchildren Lily, Harlan, and Thea; and Brooke Duda—married to Garret Duda, with great-grandchildren Michael, Colton, Samuel and Lola; Tammy Winters-Chavez married to Steve Chavez, with children Samantha Chavez, Dillon Chavez—married to Courtney Chavez, Kyle Chavez, Ryan, Chavez and Josiah Chavez and Reese Cox; Paul Winters husband of Rick Decker. Crystal Chelf married to Chris Chelf with daughter ImaniChelf, great granddaughter Khalia, son Samar Chelf, and daughter Amaya Chelf. Nephews and Nieces; Angelo Valencia, Billy Valencia, Dennis Valencia and Charlie Valencia, Frank Trujillo, Susie Trujillo, Daniel Lopez, Maria Elena Lopez

Josie's friends and family find peace knowing Josie is finally home in the presence of her Lord. Though she has stepped out of our sight, her soul remains woven into the fabric of our lives, watching over us until we meet again.
