Judith (Judy) Ann Peterson passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 7, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Peoria, Illinois, Judy moved with her family to Albuquerque, NM as a toddler. Judy lived a full and vibrant life devoted to family, friendships, and the many passions she pursued with energy, style and grace. A proud 1957 graduate of Valley High School, Judy later enjoyed participating in Continuing Education classes. During her career as a Trust Officer, Judy was a member of the New Mexico Estate Planning Council. Judy was a competitive and skilled horseshoe player, tennis player, and bowler. After raising her family and retiring from a successful career, Judy moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to start a new chapter in her life. Not long after moving to Las Vegas, she met and married her husband, Brian. They shared 26 wonderful years together. In her later years, she discovered new joys in tap dancing and quilting. Judy lovingly created many beautiful quilts that became treasured gifts for family and friends. She was a member of the Silver Belles tap dance group, performing routines for local senior centers, helping create costumes, organizing performances, and enthusiastically practicing with the group. One of her favorite pastimes was working on jigsaw puzzles with loved ones.
Judy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Melvin and Dena Richards; her four brothers and their spouses; and her former husband, Paul Hartmann, the father of her children.
Judy is lovingly remembered by her husband, Brian Peterson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Terry Marshall and their son Lucas of Rio Rancho, NM; her son, Steven E. Hartmann, her grandson, Steven E. Hartmann Jr., his wife Julia, and their daughter Kensley, all of Albuquerque, NM; and her son and daughter-in-law, John and Jodi Hartmann of Greeley, Colorado. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Blake and Carrie; Chris and Erika and their children Keaton and Molly; Weston and Kristen and their children Isaac, Violet, and Isaiah; and Shaun and Heather, all of Colorado. Judy is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews as well as Brian’s son and daughter-in-law Dale and Jane Peterson of Sidney, Ohio; and Brians’ many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Judy will be remembered for her kindness, humor, spunk, amazing strength and resilience, warmth, creativity, and enduring optimism. Her favorite saying was: “This too shall pass.”
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
