Judith “Judy” Whitney, 78, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2026.

Judy was born on April 19, 1947, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to William and Lilli Hentel. She spent her childhood in Albuquerque and remained connected to the community throughout her life.

In her early years, Judy worked in administrative office roles before dedicating much of her adult life to caring for her home and family. She was especially proud of earning her black belt in Shotokan Karate, an accomplishment that reflected her determination and discipline.

Judy had a friendly personality and was known for her love of chocolate and her deep affection for animals. She was a passionate advocate for the fair and compassionate treatment of animals, a cause that remained close to her heart throughout her life. She also formed meaningful friendships both in person and online with people who shared her interests.

She was devoted to her late husband, Chuck Whitney, who died in 2019. She is survived by her children, Mark Whitney, Pamela Whitney, and Skyler Whitney; her grandchildren, Kara, Kaitlyn, William, David, April, Shaun, and Everett; and her great-granddaughter, Cassandra. She is also survived by her siblings, Harold Hentel and Ann Beaty. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lilli Hentel, and her sister, Janet Dustin.

No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Judy’s memory are encouraged to make a donation to their local animal welfare organization in her name.

Judy will be remembered for her love of animals and her belief that they deserve kindness, care, and protection.
