Karen Lee Hughes McCoy

Age 65 passed away Monday, January 17, 2022. She was born in Stockton, CA on February 9, 1956, to Marvin and Arlene Hughes.

She was preceded in death by her father; Marvin Hughes, her maternal grandparents; Andrew and Alice Tramp, as well as her paternal grandparents; Clarence Hughes and Faye Hanson.

Karen is survived by her son, Ralph (Bert) Gilbert McCoy Jr of Fernley, NV; her son Andrew (Brian) McCoy of Quemado, NM; and her son, Michael McCoy of Tijeras, NM. As well as 9 grandchildren and her 2 pets, Coco an English Mastif and Rocky the cat.

As a young child Karen attended Glenwood Elementary from 1st grade to 8th grade. She then attended Linden High School from 9th grade to her senior year and graduated in 1974. Karen continued her education as she attended San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Ca. In 1987 she graduated with a degree in A. A in Natural Studies and Electron Microscopy. She then attended the University of Nevada Reno in Reno, NV and graduated with her degree in BA in General Studies in 1998.

Her success led to her to work at University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno Nevada as an Electron Microscopist from 1987-1994. From there she works for Intel as the Senior Engineer from 1994 to 2022.

 

Karen loved to travel and has visited at least 10 different countries and has traveled all throughout the US. She loved being outdoors most of all, and, spent most of her free time hiking, biking, gardening, cross country skiing, bird watching, walking around Academy Hills Park with her dog Coco and visiting with the many neighbors that she was friends with. Karen had a love for photography capturing her love of travel, family, and friends. She was a fantastic cook and loved to entertain. She was always on the go. She was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church. One of her many passions was donating to charities. She donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Veteran’s charities, Catholic charities, Smile Train as well as other charities.

The most important thing to Karen was her family, friends, and staying connected with them all.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 10:00 am Daniels Family Funeral Services - Wyoming Chapel. A reception to follow, and an Internment later in Stockton, CA.
