Kent Marc Sidlow June 30,1993 – August 7, 2023
Kent was born in Albuquerque, NM, then moved to Tijeras, NM as a young boy. He passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his Grandmother, Pauline Perez, Parents, Marc and Sonia Sidlow, Sister, Kathryn Tung, Niece, Theodora Tung, and Brother-in-Law, Paul Tung.
As a young boy Kent took drum lessons (taking after his sister) and developed a love for playing and creating music with his drums for his entire life. In middle school, he was selected as a percussion member of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program Junior Orchestra. He went to school in the Moriarty-Edgewood School District and participated in multiple sports including Track, Cross Country, and Wrestling. He was also involved in the school band, marching, concert (orchestra), and jazz. He graduated from Moriarty High School in 2011. After high school he attended some college courses, but he decided it was not for him. He then attained an audio engineer certificate.
Kent worked various jobs after high school, but his passion was to do something related to music, either playing or recording. This led him to be a recording engineer working at Red Gorilla Studios where he recorded, mixed, and mastered music for several artists. He was part of a team that presented live music streams of numerous artist performances during and after the Covid pandemic.
Kent’s love of music was eclectic and covered many genres; Classical, Big Band, Standards, Jazz, Old Country, Folk, Funk, Reggae, Ska, Rock, Metal, and more.
Since high school, he played in many bands; Zealous Grooves, Throw the Temple, Dead City Radio, Loner Party, Modus, Vilirium, Queen Velvet and others. He also filled-in as a drummer for other artists such as Manhigh, Kyle Martin, Shotzilla, and Walls Within. While with Zealous Grooves and Throw the Temple, these bands were nominated for numerous New Mexico Music Awards.
When Marijuana became legal in New Mexico, Kent became part owner of a Marijuana dispensary – Red Gorilla Greens. He found a new passion for the business and truly enjoyed the new challenge. He worked at the dispensary and continued to play and record music.
Though he had loving meaningful relationships, he did not marry. Kent loved living in the mountains and gardening/growing things. Kent loved animals, particularly dogs. He loved the family’s chocolate labs, Oreo and Chip. As an adult he had many dogs including Aden (rescued/adopted), Oso, (which he got as a puppy from family), Lucius (rescued/adopted) and Dusty (rescue/adopted). He also loved building Lego sets, dancing, cooking and traveling.
Kent was a beautiful, caring, giving, kind and loyal person to all those he encountered. He will be greatly missed by his family, bandmates, and friends.
In loving memory of Kent Sidlow, a memorial service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 10:00 am at Daniel’s Family Funerals and Cremation, Wyoming Chapel, located at 7601 Wyoming Boulevard NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87109.
