In loving memory of Laurie Whitaker

Laurie Ann Whitaker, 67, passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2026 in the comfort of her home in Alquerque, New Mexico. Born on April 8, 1959, in Lowell, Massachusetts to Roger and Shirley Gay.

Laurie was a person with many talents and passions. She attended Groton High School, class of 1977. She attended Fisher College, class of 1991. Laurie enjoyed her work in communications at various call centers. She enjoyed talking to new people and always had a way of connecting with many people.

Laurie enjoyed many hobbies and activities including arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting, baking, reading, and gardening. She enjoyed snuggling with her dogs, Emerald and Sam, and reading Steven King and Dean Koontz novels. She loved the Boston Red Sox and on Sundays you could find her watching the Nascar races.

Laurie is preceded in death by her mother and father, Roger and Shirley Gay. She is survived by her long time partner, Casey O’Kane, her sister and brother in-law Lee and George McGovern of Dunstable, MA, her Brother and Sister in-law David and Debbie Gay of Rio Rancho, NM, her son Jeremy Busby of Rio Rancho, NM, her daughter and son in-law Heidi and Thomas Monarrez of Phoenix, AZ, her son and daughter in-law Jonathan and Naomi Brickley of Rio Rancho, NM, her daughter Nicole Brickley of Rio Rancho, NM, and her daughter and son in-law Colleen and Jeremy Valdez of Edgewood, NM. Laurie is survived by her nine grandchildren; Lucas, Kayla, Isaiah, Jaxon, Malakai, Adam, Alexa, Caidance, Ellie and four great-grandchildren; Addison, Winter, Seranity, and Freya.

Laurie will be cremated and laid to rest near her mother and father. Services are to be determined at this time.
