Leandro Lopez

February 21, 1936 — February 27, 2023

Albuquerque

Leandro Lopez, 87, was called to Heaven on February 27, 2023, in the comfort of his home in Albuquerque, surrounded by his loving family.  Leandro was born in Antonito Colorado to Selso and Eleanore Lopez on February 21, 1936.

Leandro Lopez was known as Lee, to his Hoffmantown neighbors for over 60 years.   He was always smiling and had a friendly “HOWDY” to everyone he passed.  Lee walked his dog Charlie #2 in the early morning and evenings, where neighbors knew that if they needed a helping hand dad would be there for them.  Lee had pride in his garden of many roses, grapes, fruit trees and the little animals that shared some space knowing they would be fed and safe.  We knew as a family, that dad’s neighbors  would always be watching out for him.  Dad loved his neighborhood friends along with fishing, gardening and meeting new people.

After graduating from high school,  Lee enlisted in the United States Airforce and was stationed at the Aviano Airforce Base in Italy.  Lee met his future wife Josephine Pegorer, while on a blind date with fellow Airman and best friend, Tony Lueras. Tony’s girlfriend, Julietta was best friends with Josephine and introduced them. On February 21, 1960, Lee married Josephine in a double wedding in her hometown of Ceccini, Italy.

Lee was preceded in death by his beautiful loving wife and Charlie #1, and will sadly be missed by his children.  He was survived by his daughter Anita Nevarez Lopez; grandsons Mathew, Alfredo and partner Trevor; granddaughter Alicia, and great-grandson Fabien; daughter Carla Zuniga and husband Eddie; grandson Joshua, and step-grandchildren, Dominick, Deremy and Jesica and step-great grandson Jayvin; son Frank Lopez and wife Dru; and granddaughters, Morgan, great-granddaughter Nadia; Perri Nuelk and husband Alex, and great-grandson Milo, and great-granddaughters Luci and Flora.

His brothers Mario and Selso Jr, sisters Consuelo and Genevieve,  also survive him, along with many extended family members and close friends.
