Lela Smith

Lela Smith passed away March 22nd, 2022, in her home in Belen, New Mexico at the age of 102. She was born to Eldridge and Rachel Strang in Weed, New Mexico on July 5th, 1919.  She completed her High School degree at Los Lunas high school in April of 1960, after a 24-year lapse, and graduated with with her youngest son, Gene. She worked for APS for many years, retiring in 1981. She enjoyed her hobbies in her retirement, such as sewing, crocheting, and quilting.

She lived a long life, and is survived by her daughter, Udella Kump and husband Anthony, and Son Gene Smith and wife Eva, as well as her 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 18 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge and Rachel Strang, son, Gale Wayne Smith, brothers Ray Strang, Lloyd Strang, Wayne Strang, and sisters Emily Gathing, and Gladys Robinson.

Services will be held Thursday, March 31st at 10 am at Daniels Family Wyoming Chapel, with Interment to follow at Sandia Memory Gardens.
