Leona Madge Stinson

Leona "Madge" Stinson, 83, of Aztec, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, in Farmington. She was born May 15, 1926, in Aztec. Madge was raised in Aztec, attended Aztec schools and graduated from Aztec High School in 1944. She was close to her father and two sons and enjoyed the same activities they did: camping, hunting and fishing. She was known as a Rock hound or Pebble-Pup, but still enjoyed time to herself, planting flowers and reading a book. Madge started working at an early age as secretarty for her father, Justice of the Peace Fred L. Lawson. Being a career woman was not common at the time. She completed a speed writing course in 1959 and went on to work for the San Juan County Sheriff's Office until she retired after 25 years of service. She was a member of the New Mexico Sheriff and Police Association. Madge was preceded in death by her parents, Fred L. and Grace P. Lawson; and by her brothers, Carl and George. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alden W. Stinson; sons, Jerry L. Stinson and his wife, Delois, of Layton, Utah, and Tommy R. Stinson and wife, Kathy, of Aztec; sisters, Lorraine Ogden of Los Alamos and Marda Cooksey of Albuquerque. She had great enjoyment of 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren making her life busy but enjoyable. Bishop Geren Tea will officiate. Pallbearers are Bryan Stinson, Jeff Stinson, Kevin Stinson, Christopher Stinson, Derrick Stinson and Devon Stinson. Honorary pallbearers are Derek LaRocco, Paul Knight, Ron Stauffer, Nate Marsden and Randy Stinson. Madge's care has been entrusted to: Cope Memorial Chapel 405 S. Main Ave. Aztec.
