Leota Harbert

August 2, 1923 — July 17, 2011

Harbert, Leota Lorayne Harbert passed away on July 17, 2011, after living a happy and full life as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was born on August 2, 1923 in Merced, CA to Carol and Walter Lines. Preceding her in death was her husband of 41 years, Gerald C. Harbert. Growing up as an only child in the busy cities of Oakland and San Francisco, CA helped her to become the independent and persistent person she was known as. Upon graduation from HS she enrolled in Jr. College, only to leave 2 years later to become a Navy Wave after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She met and married Gerald and became a Navy wife. Her children and their spouses are Carol & Rusty Babington, Doug &Kathy Harbert, Helen & Rick Horn and Jerry & Cheryl Harbert . She has 8 grandchildren, Brooke Bower, Amy Minnihan, Bill Babington, Michael Harbert, Alex Harbert, Heather Horn, Lyndsey Horn, and Zachary Harbert and 3 great-grandchildren, Bayley, Morgan and Jack. Lorayne was a resident of Albuquerque for 54 years. One of her accomplishments she frequently spoke of was when she helped coach the Manzano HS tennis team. Throughout her life she loved to garden, sew, play tennis, talk about her family and her animals and loved chocolate. She thanked the Lord every day for the gift of one more day and felt blessed by all she had received from him. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Animal Humane/NM, 615 Virginia SE, 87108. Mom would love it. Services will be on Saturday, July 23rd at 4:00 pm in the chapel at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. Leota's care has been entrusted to: Daniels Family Funeral Services 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87109 505-821-0010
