Leota Marie Truby

February 26, 1926 — October 8, 2011

Leota "Marie Truby , 85, of LaPlata died on Saturday October 8, 2011 at her home. Marie was born February 26, 1926 in Caddo County, Oklahoma to Roy Gabehart and Flora Bell Crawford. Marie?s family moved to San Juan County when Marie was in her teenage years. After graduating from high school, Marie attended the University of New Mexico. When she returned to Farmington she met and married her late husband of 58 years, Robert "Elmer Truby. The couple had one son, Elmer "Eugene Truby. Together, Marie and Elmer made a life of ranching and trading livestock at their family home in LaPlata. Marie was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. Marie is going to be missed dearly by many. Marie was never short of old-fashioned hospitality or kind words. It can be said that she knew no stranger and everyone quickly became a friend. Marie was devoted in her faith, loved bowling, playing cards, and spending time in the company of those she cared for, family and friends alike. Marie had a passion for outside activities, loved livestock and even in her later years could often be found in her garden. Marie had an energy level that surpassed most and age did not seem to slow her down. Marie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Marie is preceded in death by her husband, son, parents; sister Janelle Ely, and brother Harold Gabehart. Marie is survived by her grandson Tyler Truby formerly of Farmington, his wife Shawna and daughters Kaleigh, Karissa, and Kaitlyn; granddaughter Krista Truby of Farmington and her daughters Tanisha and Andrea Friend; great-great granddaughter Jasmine Ollis; daughter-in-law Ruth Truby of LaPlata; step-grandsons Gary Titus, Dusty Titus and wife Riva, and Michael Titus and wife Heather of Farmington; step-great grandsons David Weeks and Andrew Titus; step-granddaughter Sierra Titus; sister Wilma Cordell; and brothers Donald Gabehart, Tom Gabehart, and Bob Gabehart. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October, 15 at the LaPlata Valley Baptist Church, #62 Highway 170, LaPlata with Pastor Slim Lambright officiating. Marie will then be taken to Durango and buried alongside her husband Elmer at Greenmount Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Gerald Gabehart, Jeff Ely, Rick Ely, Pat Walters, Mason Walters, and David Jennings.
