Leslie L. Wingert was born on March 1, 1935, in Hoisington, Kansas, to Floyd Keener Wingert and Dorothy Wingert. He was a twin, with a sister named Cynthia. Later, the family moved to Oklahoma City, where Les helped his father load automotive trucks and worked in the shop, rebuilding automotive parts. In 1946, they relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, a city with a population of approximately 37,000 at the time. Les assisted his parents in building the successful KW Auto Supply. While expanding into the El Paso, Texas market, he met the love of his life, Barbara Wingert, on a blind date, and they eventually got married.
Due to health issues, the family sold KW Auto Supply, but it wasn't long before Les started another popular store known as Less Auto Parts. He enjoyed flying and eventually founded Sierra West Commuter Airlines.
Les was an excellent marksman and took pride in being part of the El Paso Sheriff's Reserve. He was selected to be a part of the presidential protective detail, working with the Secret Service for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson during their visits to El Paso.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, Keener and Dorothy Wingert, and siblings, brother Herold Wingert, and sister Cynthia Patrick. Loving wife, Barbara J. Wingert. Les is survived by his son, Mark Wingert, and wife, Nancy WIngert, son, Todd Wingert, and wife, Jerri Wingert . Grandchildren Tifani Wingert, Coda Wingert, and Troy Wingert.
