Duganne, Lorraine H. "Mickey"
Age, 91, of Albuquerque, NM passed away June 30, 2017 at home with her son David, and daughter Martha Ann by her side. Mickey was born in Wewoka, OK to David E. Harjoe and Nellie Ellis. Her parents passed away before she was two years old, and Mickey was lovingly raised by her foster mother Elizabeth Jacobs-Wright and the Frank Jacobs family of Holdenville, OK. Mickey was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, Eufaula Band. Mickey married Paul Duganne in 1953 in Muskogee, OK having met each other while working on the Navajo (Diné) Reservation at Window Rock, AZ. Mickey was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her parents, her foster mother, and her brothers David, Francis Lee, Raymond, Sonny Boy, and her sister Betsey. Mickey is survived by her son David, daughter Martha Ann, many Harjo(e) nieces and nephews, and in-law niece Jill Bulman and Dangel families. Mickey was blessed to have the rare opportunity of maintaining childhood friends from Holdenville and Muskogee, OK for over eighty years. As a young girl she was active in her Baptist Church and Girl Scout camps, excelling in archery, bowling, golf and tennis. In later years, she loved to attend her Muskogee Central High Class of 1944 reunions. Her last reunion was in 2004 (60th). Mickey attended Oklahoma State University. Before marrying Paul, Mickey was an Executive Secretary. Her experience began at a German POW camp in OK, then working for the Area Director in Indian Affairs, prior to moving to Window Rock, AZ Navajo Area Director’s Office. As a homemaker, Mickey was a devoted wife and mother. She found time to volunteer and serve in the different communities where her husband Paul worked. She did substitute teaching at Naschitti, NM; Girl Scout chaperone to girls attending Camp Asaayi. She taught release classes for the Presbyterian Church while at Steamboat and Toyei, AZ schools. She enjoyed organizing and presenting health career fairs and establishing a volunteer auxiliary for the Ganado Presbyterian Hospital and later Project HOPE hospital. Mickey organized a League of Women Voters chapter while in the Ganado region. She also served on the Ganado Public Schools District School Board. Hearing about former youth-students, and keeping in touch with various Ganado community members was always a pleasure for her. When Mickey and Paul moved to Albuquerque after Paul’s retirement they became involved with the Paradise Hills United Methodist Church. They taught vacation bible school classes, visited shut-ins, and made deliveries to local food banks and shelters. Mickey also participated in a BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) group. She also served many years as an Election Poll Official for Bernalillo County. Mickey and Paul enjoyed outings together, with their immediate family as well as with relatives and friends. Besides their day trips locally and around New Mexico, the New Mexico State Fair, the Albuquerque Symphony, and Albuquerque Dukes games were a source of enjoyment and socialization. In her last months, she still loved to get out for a short ride despite the encumbrances caused by declining mobility and need for oxygen. She continued to read her daily bible lessons as well. Mickey was very tenacious when it came to dealing with failing health. She was a good patient in that she tried to do what was required to manage her diabetes and later kidney failure. She had much respect for her Fresenius peritoneal dialysis team of nine years, her NM Heart Hospital cardiology team and most recently her Compassus Hospice team. A memorial service will be held Monday, July 10, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Blvd NW, Albuquerque, with Pastor Jay Armstrong officiating.
