It is in loving memory and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose Luis “Louie” Chavez, age 79, of Albuquerque, NM, on January 17, 2026. Louie was born May 19, 1946, in Tome, NM.
Louie proudly served his country after being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he fought in the Vietnam War. Following his service, he attended barber college, becoming a Master Barber and successful entrepreneur. He owned and operated Louie’s California Concept Hair Design and other ventures, building a reputation for excellence and community connection.
Family was very important to Louie. A devoted father, grandfather, and uncle, he loved visiting family in Tome to ensure he kept a connection to his roots. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting. He supported his family’s many activities. He would take his family on long road trips, and weekend ski getaways. Louie instilled in his children the belief that they could succeed at anything they pursued.
Louie was known for his strong work ethic, resilience, and commitment to the Catholic community. He attended Mass every Sunday at Risen Savior Parish and was active in the church until Parkinson’s disease made it unsafe for him to drive.
Louie is survived by his children Marcos, Mario, and Vanessa; his former wife Yvonne; grandchildren Daniela, Olivia, Gianna, and Alejandro; siblings Josie, Isabel, and Lucy; and many loving nieces and nephews. Louie’s life will be remembered as a testament to faith, family, and perseverance. His love and guidance will live on in all who knew him.
Services will be held Monday, February 2, 2026, at Risen Savior Catholic Church: Viewing at 9:00 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m., Mass at 10:00 a.m.
