Louis A. Lopez was born in Rodarte, NM on November 19, 1935 to Facundo & Emilia Lopez. As a young boy, Louis worked in Wyoming tending sheep with his father during the summers. This is where he developed the passion for reading books and he learned how to cook. He also grew up with his cousin Isaac. They were like brothers, partners-in-crime and remained best of friends. Louis graduated from Penasco High School in 1954. After graduation, he joined the US Navy. While in the Navy, he married Patricia. Together they had 6 six children and an adopted son. He was stationed on various ships: the USS Stickell, USS Crow, USS Macon and USS Sigourney, which gave him the opportunity to travel to different countries throughout the world. After twelve years, he left the military. Louis worked for the State of New Mexico for the “Smaller Communities” program. He worked twenty years for the federal government with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and retired in 1999. These jobs gave him and his family the opportunity to live in various communities in NM and CA. After retirement, he traveled to Italy, Spain and Marocco. He lived in Penasco, NM for a few years after retirement. He loved to go on road trips to cultural destinations in New Mexico. Louis loved taking photos of landscapes and family. He enjoyed reading books and national geographic magazines. He was a history buff and loved the game show “Jeopardy” where he was told many times to go try his luck. Louis is survived by his wife Patricia, six children; Patrick, Louie, Rose Marie, Marsha, Mark, Suzanne; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren, one sister Viola, niece and one nephew. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, adopted son Matthew, sister Alice and brothers Facundo and Paul.
