Loyd Clayton DeWees

Loyd Clayton DeWees was born in Blue, Ok to Bessie and Virgil DeWees on April 5, 1921 one of 12 children. He passed away Monday, May 10th in Farmington. He married Lorene Frances Long on May 26, 1939. They moved to Albuquerque where Loyd worked on a dairy farm. Carl Edward was born to them in Albuquerque and then they moved to Winslow, Arizona where he also worked on a dairy. From there they moved to Paonia, CO. Loyd worked for Mr. Wilcox, farming and milking cows. He also worked in a coal mine until he was nearly killed in a cave-in. A chunk of the ceiling fell and hit him in the back and knocked him between two boulders where he was buried in debris. The two boulders saved his life. A daughter, Emma Jean and another son, Clayton Eugene were born in Paonia. Loyd also had a tire recapping business there. They moved back to Albuquerque and Loyd went to work for McIlhaney’s dairy, where he worked until he retired. They moved to Aztec, NM in 1978. They attended the Aztec Assembly of God Church until they were no longer able to drive. Loyd lived a very good and healthy life until the end. He honored God in all of his business dealings and God rewarded him with a long healthy life until the end. He saw his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Emma Jean and grandson Matthew DeWees. Loyd is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lorene Frances, his two sons, Carl Edward (JoAnn) and Clayton Eugene (Daphne), his son-in-law Emil Sydow, one sister, Alene Stewart of Hammond, Oklahoma, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 16 great, great grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Visitation for Loyd will be held on Thursday, May 13th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 14th at 2:00 p.m. at World Harvest Center, 1024 N. Butler, Farmington, with Pastor Aaron Parker officiating. Interment will be in Aztec Cemetery.
