Lydia Cabiedes

CABIEDES-Lydia de Cabiedes, 93, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. Mrs. Cabiedes was born in Otavalo, Ecuador on July 12, 1917. She lived in Quito, Ecuador until July 1959, when she moved to St. Louis, MO to join her husband who was a teacher at St. Louis Country Day School. In Ecuador, Lydia was an early childhood educator, having taught in several childcare schools. For 12 years she taught 1st and 2nd grade at the American School of Quito. In Albuquerque, she taught Spanish at the Sandia Girls School (Sandia Prep) and at the Albuquerque Academy. Aside from her passion for teaching, Lydia had many talents; she was an avid gardener and a member of the Albuquerque Rose Society. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Eduardo Cabiedes. Mrs. Cabiedes is survived by her three daughters, Mercedes de Sebbio (Roberto) from St. Louis, MO, Alicia Cabiedes Fink (Herb) from Brockport, NY, and Eugena Cabiedes; grandchildren, Steve Cabiedes, Gisella Sebbio-Thomas (William), Andrew and Alex Fink and Carol Cabiedes; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Caroline Cabiedes, Lydia Maria and Robert Thomas. In Ecuador Lydia leaves eight brothers and sisters, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Marta Sanchez, Laura Hernandez and Etel Lozano Dominguez for the loving care extended to our mother; also to Presbyterian Hospice, especially to Janis H. Kelton, RN and Patsy Ortiz. A funeral Mass will take place at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7500 Paseo del Norte, NE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Martineztown House, 808 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
