Madeline Cruz Moffett

Madeline “Maddi” C. Moffett, 86, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 27, 2022, in the presence of her family in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She dedicated her life to raising her children.
Madeline was born on March 18th, 1936, in San Juan, New Mexico, and an enrolled member of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. Maddi is survived by her oldest sister Sophie Atencio, and her brother Larry Cruz; her son Thomas “Bub” Moffett, and daughters, Geraldine Butler and her husband Dan Butler, Brenda Moffett, Cherlynn Mendoza and her husband Alfredo Mendoza, Kimberly Garcia and her husband Danny Garcia; her grandchildren Stephanie Butler, Brian Butler and his wife Erica Butler, Daniel Butler, Madeline Mendoza, Alexandré Mendoza, and Julia Mendoza, Joshua Moffett and his wife Valerie Moffett; her great-grandchildren Marcus Soza, Adrian Soza, Bryan Soza, Ariana Butler, Olivia Butler, Jacob Butler, Thomas Moffett, and Denae Moffett; and her great-great-grandson, Aaron Soza.
Maddi was known for her cooking and baking. Her best recipes were homemade “hot” buns, tortillas, red chile stew, posole, sweet rice, fruit pies, white cake, and bizcochitos. In addition, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting and solving puzzles. Her favorite past times were drinking Folgers coffee and laughing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren while watching Westerns and True Crime series.
Maddi loved to care for her family. Her legacy of unconditional love, respect, faith, kindness, and understanding continues through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She will be deeply missed.
Madeline was preceded in by death her mother and father, Katherine Tapia Cruz and Cornelius M. Cruz; her brother Cornelius M. Cruz Jr.; her sisters Mary Cruz Lente, Linda Baros, and Angel Tafoya.
A Rosary will be recited Monday, June 13, 2022 at 6:00 pm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church,619 Copper Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. A Graveside Service will follow at 11:30 AM at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM.
