Mae Zah

Zah died May 30, 2010, in Mesa. She was born Jan. 22, 1914, in Keams Canyon, into the Bitter Water/Deer Springs People Clan for the Salt People Clan. Zah was a life resident of Low Mountain. She lived a traditional lifestyle, raised a family and tended livestock. Zah was a well known weaver of very large rugs. She was highly respected by the community and was a loving mother and grandmother. Survivors include her children, Peterson Zah of Window Rock/Phoenix, Mary Ann White of Forest Lake, Sally Ann Joe of Sheep Springs, Lorena Zah Bahe of Fort Defiance, Emerson Zah of Indian Wells, Verna Mae Yazzie of Low Mountain/Mesa, Henrietta Zah of Flagstaff, Gilbert Wilford Zah of Low Mountain; 20 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Zah was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Zah. Pallbearers were Bronson Yazzie, Andre’ Zah, Keeyonnie Zah, Shawn Bahe, Christian Tsosie, Michael Joe, Aaron Joe, Roy Begody.
