Manuel P. Hernandez

Mr. Manuel P. Hernandez passed away after a short illness on March 26th, 2022, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, at the age of 87 years.

Manuel was born on Wednesday, October 10th, 1934, in Dawson, New Mexico, to Elvira Hernandez. ‘Manoli’ as he was known to friends, and ‘Manny’ to so many others, soon moved to Taos where he grew and attended Taos High School where he was a gifted athlete in baseball, basketball, and football. Manuel graduated from Taos High School in 1953.

Entering the US Navy in March of 1955, Manoli achieved the rate of DK3 for Disbursing Clerk, General, on the carrier USS Ticonderoga serving in the Pacific. On Saturday, May 12th, 1956, he married Ms. Sylvia Beatrice Casados in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  They were married for 66 years and had four children. After an Honorable discharge from the Navy in March of 1959, he moved his family to Albuquerque, where he began work and attending school to further his accounting background, he received a degree in accounting in 1977.

Manoli worked for many companies including Safeway and Piggly Wiggly, ran his own business for a short time, and retired at 65. He was a part of the Retail Clerks Union for 10 years. He loved to fish, play golf, and in his younger years, softball, and football. Manuel was an active parishioner at San Ysidro Catholic Parish.

Manoli is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sylvia, a son Michael, and a daughter, Mary Margaret. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharron, and a son, Thomas. Manoli leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, numerous friends and family.

Services for Manoli will be held Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at San Ysidro Catholic Church located at 5015 Corrales Road, Corrales, New Mexico. Rosary Service will begin at 9:30AM, Mass will follow at 10:00AM, directly after Mass a Reception will take place in the church hall.

Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM, 87501 on Wednesday, May 4th, 2022, beginning at 9:45AM.
