Marcus Eloy
Vigil
Dec 3, 1971 — Jul 6, 2026
Wednesday
Daniels Family Funeral Services - Sara Road Chapel
6:30 - 7:30 pm (Mountain time)
We are deeply saddened to share that Marcus Eloy Jerome Vigil left our world on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 9:20 a.m. He suffered complications from an enlarged heart, which caused him to collapse. The valiant efforts of his father (who administered CPR until the first responders arrived) and the first responders who were able to revive his pulse. Unfortunately, he passed while being transported to the hospital. He was declared dead on arrival.
He was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on December 3, 1971. His family spent the first few years living on 4th Street in Albuquerque. They then moved to Pilar, New Mexico, just before Marcus and his sister began school. He graduated from Taos High School and then attended New Mexico State University for a couple of years.
An adventurer by nature, he moved to San Antonio, Texas, to begin his career. Customer Service was his occupation during this time. Though he liked his friends and the city of San Antonio, his heart longed to return to New Mexico. He always said that Albuquerque was his city. He appreciated the life and diversity of his native land. He returned a proud son of New Mexico.
After his return to Northern New Mexico, Marcus attended Northern New Mexico Community College and earned his bachelor’s degree. Earning his degree and graduating Suma Cum Laude was one of his crowning achievements.
Always one who enjoyed learning new things and meeting new people, he held many different jobs during his lifetime. Customer service, waiter, Uber driver, and other miscellaneous jobs. He was embraced by a wide range of individuals who became friends. I don’t believe he ever met a stranger. In recent years, he embraced the homeless community. He could be found offering them rides, meals, blankets, clothing, and a friendly, non-judgmental ear.
He was a light in this world, shining through his charismatic personality, quick wit, loyalty, intelligence, and pride in his heritage.
He is survived by his mother, Cora Vigil; his Father, Demecio Vigil; his sister, Evelyn Asbury, and her husband, Jason Asbury; his goddaughter, Sydney Asbury; his godmother/aunt, Marcella Romero, and the Anival Archuleta Family.
A service will be held at Daniel’s Funeral Home (Sara Road) on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at 6:30 pm.
His wish was to have his ashes spread on the property in Pilar, where he grew up. This will be done privately at a later date. As a young child, Marcus and Alberto (his grandfather) would spend their days under the trees, near the acequia, enjoying each other's company and the simplicity and beauty of Pilar. His wish was to rest in a place he loved and where he had many cherished memories.
