MARGARET CHAVEZ MONTOYA BACKGROUND
The night Margaret Chavez Montoya died a hand reached out to draw her to the dance floor amidst the stars. Anselmo drew her to him and they danced all the dances they had in life - round, square, ballroom and many others. The circle around them was composed of the Chavez family that preceded them in death and the Montoya family some of whom died years ago. The welcome party sang the old Spanish songs and clapped with glee for this auspicious event. Even God joined in.
Margaret was the last living child of the 12 children of Piedad and David Chavez. She grew up in the family home in Old Town on Marble Street. As a younger person she played the violin and joined a group of musicians to play for parties and other gatherings.
Margaret was a very private person who let Anselmo shine. The lawyers Margaret worked for were very fortunate to have a person who had such a brilliant mind for such detailed work. Margaret was able to maintain a sharp memory even in her last days. Margaret shared this ability of remembering family events with anyone who was interested, who asked for it. She could even look at an old group picture and name everyone in it.
Margaret was a faithful member of the Catholic daughters . She shared talent, time, and treasure with the Church she loved and the organizations like the Altar and Rosary Society. The Montoyas loved to attend the Spanish Mass. In their earlier life they sang with the choir.
This extraordinary couple will certainly be missed by their parish, relatives and friends!
