Margarete M. Grosvenor

May 11, 1924 — May 4, 2017

Margarete Grosvenor was born in Wurzburg Germany on May 11,1924. She grew up in Mannheim Germany during World War II. After the War she worked at a U.S. ordinance depot where she met her husband, Al Grosvenor, a Sargent in the U.S. Army. They had a son , Michael, who was born in Mannheim before Al was stationed back in the U.S.  Margarete obtained her U.S. citizenship in 1956 just weeks before their second son, Paul was born.  Al and Margarete were stationed in Italy for two years before being reassigned to Sandia Base in Albuquerque in 1958. Margarete worked at the East side Officers club for 48 years from 1958 until she retired at the young age of 82.  She met her best friend Johanna Payne, a young German woman married to a U.S. solider, in 1960 here in Albuquerque. The last 15 years, every day at 2:00 o'clock it was a “Kaffe Klatch” at Margarete’s house for coffee and cake with as many people as could fit in the kitchen.
