Margarete Grosvenor was born in Wurzburg Germany on May 11,1924. She grew up in Mannheim Germany during World War II. After the War she worked at a U.S. ordinance depot where she met her husband, Al Grosvenor, a Sargent in the U.S. Army. They had a son , Michael, who was born in Mannheim before Al was stationed back in the U.S. Margarete obtained her U.S. citizenship in 1956 just weeks before their second son, Paul was born. Al and Margarete were stationed in Italy for two years before being reassigned to Sandia Base in Albuquerque in 1958. Margarete worked at the East side Officers club for 48 years from 1958 until she retired at the young age of 82. She met her best friend Johanna Payne, a young German woman married to a U.S. solider, in 1960 here in Albuquerque. The last 15 years, every day at 2:00 o'clock it was a “Kaffe Klatch” at Margarete’s house for coffee and cake with as many people as could fit in the kitchen. Al passed away in June of 2013 and Margarete lived on her own with the help of family and friends until a month ago when her health started failing. Chelsea Meadows and great grandson Tyler Meadows, son Michael Grosvenor and his wife Kaye Harmston, grandson Nicholas Grosvenor and his wife Emilie and great grandsons Liam and Max Grosvenor, Margarete’s sister Anita Lunz and brother Paul Lunz, both living in Mannheim,Germany, her best friends Johanna Payne and husband Jim, and Gaby Gentry and her husband Jerry.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at 3:00 p.m, at Daniels Family Funeral Services at 7601 Wyoming N.E. 87109, with a reception to follow in the Wyoming sunroom reception center.
