Marian Revay Lovato, 69, passed away May 22nd, surrounded by her husband and children — who were always in her heart — a love that defined her, sustained her, and transcends this lifetime.
Marian was luminous, her smile was as bright and beautiful as her laughter. Her joy was rooted in her vivid imagination and a faith in love and life that made her ethereal. She carried a kind of magic with her, woven into her ability to make people feel special through her innate kindness and genuine curiosity.
Marian was born in Warm Springs, New Mexico, on November 7, 1955, to Euphemia and Eustacio Chavez. She was raised in Cuba, New Mexico, and spent her childhood summers in the Valles Caldera with her parents and siblings, alongside her extended family, while her father and uncles worked as loggers. The summers she spent playing make-believe with her cousins in the forest and listening to ’60s rock on a transistor radio undoubtedly fostered her lifelong love of music and deep devotion to her family.
From a young age, Marian was a voracious reader. She soaked up words like air, which was reflected in her intelligence, her humor, and the boundless wonder she carried into every conversation.
She graduated from Cuba High School and went on to attend the University of New Mexico, where she earned her degree in Business Administration and Human Resources. It was there she met her husband, James Lovato, and they were married in 1978, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to one another.
She loved her children and granddaughters with every part of herself, and they adored her in return. They loved to be with her and laugh with her. Marian always brought people together. Her home was always open, often serving as a second home to her nieces, nephews, and her children’s friends. She was a fantastic cook, known especially for her tortillas and biscochitos, which became staples at her home and a quiet symbol of her love for her family.
Marian’s faith was absolute. She believed in the presence of the spirit world and took immense comfort knowing she would be reunited with her loving father, Eustacio, who preceded her in death in 2023.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James Lovato; her children, Amanda Demko (Michael), Brian Lovato, and Christina Lovato; her granddaughters, Delilah Demko and Juliet Demko, who were the greatest joy of her life; her mother, Euphemia Chavez; her siblings, Paul Duwayne Chavez (Elena), Shirley Ortega, Tommy Chavez (Susan), and Isabel Jacquez (Arsenio); and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry her in their hearts forever.
A Rosary will be recited at 12:30 p.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on
Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Church, Cuba, New Mexico.
Interment will follow at Santo Niño Cemetery, La Jara, New Mexico.
