Marie “Stormie” Smith, age 70, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was born on January 26, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Marie Mirjam Arvonen Wood and Harry John Wood.

Stormie graduated from Denfeld Senior High School in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1974. She later attended the University of Maryland European Branch and earned her Associate’s degree in 1988.

Stormie dedicated 43 years of service to the Department of Defense. Throughout her career, she was recognized for her dedication and service, including receiving a Certificate of Service accompanied by a medal—an accomplishment that reflected her commitment and years of service.

A true motorcycle enthusiast, Stormie found great joy and freedom in riding her motorcycle. It was one of her greatest passions and a reflection of her adventurous spirit.

Stormie was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Mirjam Arvonen Wood, and her father, Harry John Wood.

She is survived by her son, Joie Beitia of Seattle, Washington; niece, Megan Wood; nephews, Harry Wood and Michael Wood, all of Tucson, Arizona; and cousins, Paul and Mary Wood of Kendallville, Indiana.

Stormie will be remembered for her dedication, adventurous spirit, love of motorcycles, and the lasting impression she made on those who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Daniels Family Funeral – Sara Chapel, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
