Martha ReJune Hatch

HATCH - Martha ReJune Stewart Hatch, 80, passed away Saturday, July 26 2014, in Socorro. Martha was born Feb. 15 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Robert Murray Stewart and Emily Smith Stewart. She grew up in Salt Lake City and attended the University of Utah, where she held the position of President of Associated Women Students and graduated with highest honors. She met Dr. Melvin Hatch, her loving husband of 56 years, while living in Washington, D.C. They married in 1958 in the Salt Lake City Temple and made their home in Midland, Michigan, where their three children were born. The family moved to Socorro, New Mexico in 1966, where her husband was employed as professor of organic chemistry at New Mexico Tech. Martha was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in countless capacities, including that of Women�s Relief Society President. She gave to the community through many labors of love, including singing in community choir, Friends of the Library, and contributing a column to the newspaper. She founded the Friends of the Bosque del Apache NWR newsletter, which she wrote for almost a decade. She is survived by her husband, Melvin: daughters Catherine Clark (Ted) of Hong Kong, Patty (Benson Whittle, deceased) of Santa Fe, and daughter-in-law Roseanne (Steve Norbut) of Gilbert, Arizona; brother Robert Murray Stewart Jr. of Ames, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son James Murray Hatch. She will be remembered for her kindness, her scintillating smile and for having been a friend to all. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints meeting house.
