Obituary

Mary Fike, 80, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Mary was born on March 31, 1946, in Hot Springs, New Mexico, to Jesus and Hermina Torres, who preceded her in death. She dedicated her life to education, earning her bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College and a master’s degree in education from Houston Baptist University. She went on to have a fulfilling career as a teacher, touching the lives of many students throughout the years.

Mary was a woman of deep and steadfast faith. She was a devoted member of Calvary Church, where she attended services regularly and was cherished by her church community. Her faith guided her through life’s many challenges and was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her.

She had a generous and compassionate spirit and found joy in serving others, especially through her involvement with Operation Christmas Child, where she lovingly crocheted doll dresses and blankets for children in need.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Fike, a proud Navy veteran who passed away at the age of 47, as well as her sister, Cecile Roy.

She is survived by her children, Keith Fike and Kristina Grimes; her seven grandchildren, whom she adored deeply; and her six siblings: Paul Torres, Pete Torres, Joe Torres, Angie Silva, Cathy Roman, and Rose Struck. Mary’s love for her family was unwavering, and she was deeply devoted to the happiness and success of her children and grandchildren.

Despite enduring many health challenges, Mary’s strength, resilience, and grace were a testament to her enduring faith. She remained a source of inspiration and love to all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on May 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Church, 138 Frontage Rd NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124, with Pastor Roy officiating.

Mary will be remembered for her kindness, faith, strength, and the deep love she shared with her family and community. She will be greatly missed and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
