Mary Kay Foy Haney

March 24, 1943 — March 21, 2010

HANEY-Mary Kay Foy Haney, 66, went to meet the angels March 21, 2010, just 3 days before her 67th birthday. Her hard fought battle with cancer came to a peaceful end just 2 days after returning from a long awaited trip to Disney World with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Craig Esquibel, grandsons, Alexander Craig Esquibel and Hunter Ryan Esquibel, four incredibly special friends, Mary Jo Black, Missy Doles, Shirley Hester, and Brenda Stricklin, all of Birmingham, Alabama. She was born to the late Marquerite Farrar Foy and the late Louis Oliver Foy, in Birmingham, Alabama. She received a BA from Auburn University (War Eagle!), a Master’s Degree from UAB, and later a PhD from UNM. After earning her PhD, she taught at UNM, UNC-Charlotte and UTPB. She was twice listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers and was a member of various organizations and clubs including the Auburn Alumni Club. She was extremely passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students as well as those around her. Volunteering at Montezuma Elementary School was a source of enjoyment. She loved gardening, reading and watching “Walker Texas Ranger”. She loved watching Alex and Hunter play soccer…and voicing her opinion to the referees occasionally. Her incredible smile and warm, giving heart will be missed terribly. Kay was on the board of the Gynecological Cancer Awareness Project (GCAP) to help cancer patients. Any donation in her honor can be made to SRIC-GCAP, 500 Walter Street NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Thanks to her wonderful friends and extended family who were a great source of support, help and mostly love during her fight…she loved you all dearly. Live, Love, Laugh. Arrangements are entrusted to: Daniels Family Funeral Services 4310 Sara Road SE Rio Rancho, NM 87124 505-892-9920
