September 4, 1930 — May 2, 2010

MICHAEL- Mary Elizabeth Michael, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 2, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank A. Michael; her sister, Geneva Hornett; and her parents, George and Ethel Woodall. She is survived by her daughter, Carla Ginn and spouse Robert; her granddaughter, Marisa Ayon; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Spencer of Houston, TX; her sister, Louise Smith of Stigler, OK; her brother, Jack Woodall of El Paso, TX; and her sister-in-law, Betty Lee Michael. Mary was born on September 4, 1930 in Keota, OK; she graduated from Stigler High School in 1948 and moved to Albuquerque, NM in the early 1950’s. While in Albuquerque, Mary was well know in the Banking Industry. She started out at Albuquerque Federal Savings and Loan as Assistant Treasurer and worked there for over ten years. She joined American Savings and Loan Association in 1962, as Manager and Vice-President. In 1973 she was promoted to Senior Vice-President. She was the highest-ranking woman officer of a savings and Loan association in New Mexico at the time. Mary was a member of the Women’s Council of the Albuquerque Board of Realtors, she was a licensed Real Estate Broker, a member of the Women’s Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, past president of the National Office Management Association, and in 1969, she was elected president of the Albuquerque Mortgage Bankers Association, the first woman to ever hold that post. She was very active in community activities such as commissioner for this region on the Governor’s Regional Housing Authority, active in precinct and ward political circles, and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary to Allied Beverage Industries (WAABI). After the Savings and Loan business, Mary semi-retired but soon thereafter went to work at First National Bank in Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest Home-Owned Independent Bank, as Vice President of Business Development for 12 years till her retirement in December 1992. But, Mary didn’t stop there. She was very active in Our Lady of Fatima Church and signed on to work part-time in the After School Program for another eight years. She loved working with the children at Fatima. Mary enjoyed going to casinos, horse racing, playing cards with family and friends, and going on cruises. But most of all she was a committed wife, mother and grandma. She left behind many friends and will be loved and respected by all who knew her, and of course, greatly missed. Flowers are being accepted or you can make a donation to All Faith’s Receiving Home, Albuquerque Boys and Girls Club, American Lung Association or to the Charity of your choice.
