MILLER - Mary Jo Miller, 83, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, passed away suddenly, August 19th 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of over sixty years, Rudy B. Miller. Mary Jo was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and was the only child of Charles Milburn and Elsie Louise Thompson. The family spent time in Detroit, Michigan and later moved to Danville, Indiana. Mary Jo attended Indiana University, Canterbury College and The Art Institute in Chicago, receiving degrees in Painting, Drawing, Art History and Art Education. She taught Drawing, Painting and Art History in Danville for a number of years. She and Rudy then moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1957, where she taught private and group lessons for several years before receiving an MA in Art Education, Studio Painting and Art History from the University of New Mexico. She brought her love of Fine Arts and teaching to her beloved students at Rio Grande High School until her retirement. Mary Jo and Rudy traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Alaska and Mexico. She later opened the Peacock Gallery in Corrales and was one of the founders of the Corrales Bosque Gallery. Her drawings and paintings are in private collections in Indiana, Florida, Texas, New Mexico, California and Argentina. Mary Jo is survived by son Bruce Miller and his wife, Debbie, son David Miller and his wife, Patricia, five grandchildren, Kyle, Sean, Jessica, Jon and Joanna and a great-granddaughter, Natalie.
