Mary Louise Waruszewski

August 4, 1941 — August 24, 2025

Mary Louise Waruszewski passed away on August 24, 2025, at the age of 84 following a six-year battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her family at home in her final hours.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Leon Waruszewski, her sister, Sr. Mary Dorothy Yegge (aka Aunt Betty), and brother John Paul Yegge.

She is survived by her sister Pauline Vokits and husband, Ronald, sister Kathleen Johnston and husband, Ken. She is also survived by her seven children: Anthony Leon Waruszewski (Carol McCants); Paul Michael Waruszewski; Beth Ann Chavez (Deacon Leroy Chavez); Polly Sue Keeley (Jim Keeley); Ted Alan Waruszewski (Debra Waruszewski); Harry Stanley Waruszewski; Mary Amy Kleve (Jon Kleve) and grandchildren: Luke, Julie, Aaron, Katherine, Nick, Chasen, Brunswick, Shelby, Roger, Wesley, Erica, Virginia, Marshall, Thomas, Patrick, John Paul, Kelsey, Reece, Alan, Layton, Jesse, Paul, Bryson, Eleanor, Margaret, Joseph, Harrison, Andrew, Lucy and Samuel and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on August 4, 1941, to John Paul and Emma Sue Yegge. She was the third of five children.

She met her husband, Harry, in Michigan. They were married in 1962 and moved to Dayton, Ohio two years later. Harry and Mary Lou raised seven children together who were their pride and joy. She always said that the best thing was having her children with her and that they were a blessing.

In 1983, they moved the family to Albuquerque, NM where they built their forever home and spent many happy years. Harry’s job took the family to Atlanta, GA for a few years before returning and finally retiring in Albuquerque.

Mary was a homemaker extraordinaire. She enjoyed canning, cooking, sewing, baking, and playing cards. She loved spending time at the theater, and her favorite play was Les Miserable.

The family enjoyed camping in their RV every summer. Summer trips took them to Colorado, the Appalachian Mountains, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, Florida and other locations. They loved being in nature and had a deep appreciation for God’s creation. She had a special love for the river, any river. The sound of the water rushing by and the glistening of the sun on the water made her feel at peace and close to our Lord.

Mary was a lifelong, devout Catholic and attended Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish for the last several years of her life. She prayed the rosary daily until she was not able to but then her children started to pray it for her. She passed on her faith to her children and taught them that faith in God and His truth is the foundation to a happy life.
