Micha Gisser

Micha Gisser, age 88, beloved husband of Rivka Gisser, died on October 9, 2023.

Micha was born on a farm in Israel.  After his military service, he studied at Tel Aviv University School of Law and Economics from which he graduated with a BSc in economics in 1958.  In 1959 he was admitted to the graduate program in economics at the University of Chicago, from which, in 1962, he graduated with an MA and PhD degrees.

During most of his academic career, he served as a professor of economics at the University of New Mexico.  He published many articles in prestigious academic journals, as well as, a textbook in Price Theory.  Most of his research focused on the fields of agricultural economics, water rights, and industrial organization.  Micha was always proud to point out (to willing listeners) that New Mexico’s water-rights system is the best in the world.

After his retirement, he would occasionally publish OP-ED articles in the Albuquerque Journal defending private water rights in New Mexico, advocating electric-power deregulation and coauthored articles supporting free markets and fiscal responsibility.

In addition to his wife, Rivka, Micha is survived by his son Yaron Gisser his wife Olga and their children Aaron, Giselle and Kaela; His son Addie Gisser his wife Alysa and their children Leora and Zev; his daughter Dalit Muzzarelli her husband Giovanni and their children Zachary and Adam.
