Michael "Mike" Reece Killebrew

7/05/50-5/27/23

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Reece Killebrew. Mike passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family and beloved dog, Tucker, on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Jacque Killebrew; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Tom Bullard; daughter and daughter-in-law Audrey Killebrew and Tracy Jiron; son and daughter-in-law Reece and Noelle Killebrew; eight grandchildren, Cole, Aiden, Bellalia, Bryce, Adam, Seth, Olivia and Haven; one great grandchild Owen; sister Jessica Cabral and husband Dennis Cabral; brother Kenneth Killebrew and his wife Julie Fuller; mother-in-law Lori Callahan; in-laws, Pam and John Haley; in-laws, Tanya and Tony Spade; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of long-time friends who will greatly miss Mike.

Mike attended the New Mexico Military Institute and graduated from Valley High School in 1968. He then briefly attended the University of New Mexico before starting his own successful masonry business. After the passing of his father, Mike and his siblings expanded the Killebrew Industrial Park into the flourishing commercial business it is today.

In Mike’s free time, he was a master wood worker, not only having created artistic cabinets and heirlooms but also built the family home that Mike and Jacque live in today. Mike and Jacque were inseparable and shared their love of travel. They cherished their time outdoors; camping, fishing, hiking, backpacking, golfing and their Sunday mornings at the flea market. What brought Mike the most joy was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.

Mike will always be remembered for his dry, witty sense of humor and his sweet, calm, honorable and generous nature. He was a true optimist whose cup was always half full and who saw the beauty in everyday life. Not known by all, Mike was also a romantic poet:

“Earthquakes can’t destroy it.

Merchants can’t employ it.

Hard rains don’t move it, they just serve to smooth it.

For it is strong and everlasting.

It’s all yours without even asking.”
