Mozelle McSwain

April 22, 1921 — May 9, 2010

MCSWAIN- Mozelle McCabe (McMahan) of Albuquerque, NM, May 9, 2010. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Mozelle, at age 89. Mozelle was born in Big Flat, Arkansas on April 22, 1921 and was the second youngest of six children, William, Mary, Gertrude, Clara, Ina and Sarabeth, who have all predeceased her. Growing up during the austere conditions of the Great Depression, at age nine her father passed away, and then as a young woman enduring the uncertain and changing world brought on by World War II, she came from a family of integrity, with love of life, an unfailing trust in God and eternal optimism. A strikingly beautiful young woman with sharp blue eyes and brunette hair, she married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Mann McSwain (d. 1995) on Dec 27, 1941. Together, after his military service, they farmed and ranched in west Texas and southern Colorado, and then finally settled in Albuquerque, NM where Marvin’s final career was a water systems representative for the southwestern United States. They raised three sons, John (Fran d. 1999), Richard (Mary) and Donald (Judy) who all survive her, along with three grandchildren Daniel, Robert and Scott, and three wonderful great-grandchildren Blake, Richard, and Madison. She was very proud and supportive of all her family and their personal achievements are testimony to her lifelong efforts. Throughout her life she was a wonderful loving wife, homemaker and mother. Every house was always a home, every holiday and birthday was a special event for all. She made a wonderful home in Albuquerque, where her love for gardening flourished and she gave safe quarter and long happy lives to a dozen or more desert tortoises. She was a devoted Christian and a true patriot to this country and all it stands for, a trusted friend to all her neighborhoods and a mentor to many who sought her guidance and common sense. She loved all sports and had her favorite teams, and she liked the challenge categories of Jeopardy. Mozelle was a special close friend to many with whom she shared her passion for fine collectibles and her hobbies of sewing, knitting, and needlework, leaving many treasured heirlooms for all the family. Last year, Mozelle moved into The Village at Alameda to meet her assisted living needs. There she made many good friends with residents and staff alike. The dining room staff took care of Mother’s desires for no gravy and no salt on her meals and to always have plenty of black pepper and sesame seed crackers available. She taught them of the ‘national treasure’ importance of the Dallas Cowboys. We especially thank all of the medical and attendant staff for their true professionalism and kind, genuine loving care of our mother throughout the year and in her last days as she passed away. When her husband Marvin became so very ill in his final years she was always there for him, through fifty-three years of marriage, they never counted the days, but made their days of marriage together all count. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal.” Celtic verse.
