Naomi LaVon Lu Merritt went to be with Our Lord on April 13,2022 after Presbyterian Hospice care April 8,2022 to April 13,2022. Naomi was born February 4, 1931 in Clovis, New Mexico to Wrather K and Buna B Lewis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bruce Merritt. As well as her sister, Cora Lee Young.
She is survived by her sons Mark Edward Merritt and Glenn Todd Merritt. As well her, niece Diana Robertson and nephew Dana Hartshorn. She has grandchildren Phillip Z. Merritt and Michelle L. Knudsen. Her great grandchildren are Kira and Miya Knudsen twins, along with Iden, Gage, Knox, and Cade Merritt.
She graduated class of 1949 Albuquerque High School. Then graduated 1952 from Bethany Hospice Kansas City, Kansas as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a surgical RN. She married her husband August 16, 1952. During her early work career, she helped put her husband through his schooling. She worked in Englewood, California, as well ad Albuquerque, Carlsbad, and Santa Fe New Mexico for 11 years.
She enjoyed family and her Christian faith. She was baptized into the Baptist faith in 1942, and was a practicing Baptist 1945 to 1952. After marriage, practiced her Methodist faith from 1952 until her death. Her favorite scriptures were John 3:16 and 23rd Psalm.
Activities she enjoyed were sewing, swimming, playing the piano, boating, camping and arts and crafts especially SW Indian arts and crafts. In retirement Bruce and LaVon lived in Kirtland, New Mexico and nearly 30 years in Englewood, New Mexico.
After breaking her hip in a fall in March 2018, her son Mark became her primary caregiver in Rio Rancho, New Mexico from April 2018 to April 2022. She developed diabetic complications that she could not overcome. Naomi, may you rest in Our Lord's eternal peace and loving embrace forever.
