In Loving Memory of Obinna Michael Ekeh
It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Obinna Michael Ekeh who left us peacefully on April 5th 2025, at the age of 39.
Obinna was born on May 4, 1985 in Kano State, Nigeria to Michael and Princess Ekeh. His educational journey reflected his unwavering pursuit of excellence. He earned his BEng in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, followed by a distinguished MSc. in Advanced Control and Systems Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK, and later pursued a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University, USA, focusing on Medical Robotics - a testament to his desire to use technology to serve humanity.
His professional path was equally inspiring. Obinna worked with Schlumberger, Halliburton, and QED International, excelling as an engineer and later transitioned into consultancy roles with ZS Associates in the United States. His intelligence was only matched by his humility. Whether working on cutting-edge control systems or mentoring younger engineers, Obinna brought thoughtfulness, precision, and an unwavering sense of service.
Obinna married the love of his life- Uche Nwaogazie-Ekeh in 2016. Their union was not only a celebration of love but a foundation for a beautiful life of mutual respect and unwavering partnership. He was a deeply devoted father of three beautiful children. To his children, Jidechukwu, Jachi, and Somtochukwu, he was a coach, teacher, playmate, protector, and hero. He took joy in every milestone and poured himself fully into their growth. He challenged them, nurtured them, and most importantly, loved them with a depth that left no doubt - they were his everything.
Obinna was so much more than words can ever capture- he was kind, thoughtful, peaceful and had a quiet strength; always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. His infectious smile created an atmosphere of warmth and acceptance wherever he went. He was a beacon of light; his impact was immeasurable. Whether through mentoring, giving generously, or simply listening with full attention, Obinna made people feel seen, valued, and heard. He lived not for accolades, but for impact. A quiet force of excellence and compassion, Obinna lived with a purposeful grace that touched hearts and shaped lives.
A man of faith, Obinna was a devout catholic, a man who loved and served God fervently and never missed an opportunity to lead by example in prayer, in patience, in kindness and in grace.
In his passing, we do not just grieve what we have lost. We celebrate what we have gained through knowing him: the example of a man who lived with unwavering integrity, deep compassion, and unshakable purpose. He left us far too soon and we miss him more than words can ever describe but are grateful for the time we had with him and the love and memories we shared. His legacy will continue to live on in every life he touched.
Obinna is survived by his parents- Michael and Princess Ekeh; his wife, Uche Nwaogazie-Ekeh; his 3 beautiful children- Jidechukwu, Jachi and Somtochukwu who will carry his legacy forward; his siblings, Urenna Adegbotolu, Chikezie Ekeh, Uchechi Ekeh and Chibuike Ekeh; many uncles, aunties, cousins; nephew, nieces and many other relations.
