Olimpia Martinez Castillo, age 84, passed away June 6, 2022 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born February 19, 1938 to her parents Demetrio and Sophia Maestas-Martinez in La Jara, NM.
She was preceded in death by: her parents Demetrio and Sophia Martinez; son - Michael Martinez; brothers: Eugene Martinez, Rodger Martinez, and Tony Martinez; sister - Matilda Jones; several nephews and nieces.
She was survived by her husband - Tony Castillo; sister - Cathy McMahan of Albuquerque, NM; brother - Freddy Martinez of Aztec, NM; four grandchildren: Stephen, Tori, Hayley and Cruz Martinez; several nieces and nephews.
Olimpia attended the New Mexico School for the Blind in Alamogordo, NM and continued her education at Business School, Farmington, NM.
Her interests and hobbies included: quilting, knitting, traveling and gambling at the casinos. She was a member of the Federation for the Blind.
She was a longtime member of Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Her favorite quote was: “I’m blind not stupid”
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM.
