Oliver R. Smitty"" Smith

SMITH- Oliver R. "Smitty" Smith, born in Fort Collins, CO on September 7, 1920 passed away surrounded by his family on December 6, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Ellen Smith, his brother Paul Manning Smith and his first wife Leonor. He is survived by his second wife, Rosita; sons, Eric Smith, Chris Smith, Greg Smith and his wife Rose, Tony Smith, Steve Smith and his wife, Suzanne; his daughter Susan Stricklin and husband Mark. He also leaves his grandchildren; Erin Stewart and husband, Brian Weber and wife, Alexander Smith, Sean Smith and wife, Bret Smith and wife, Tanya Clark, Deidra Thomas and husband, Nicole Smith and Jacqueline Smith and eight great- grandchildren; step-children, Jolene M. Saavedra, Anita L. Saavedra, Bernice C. Saavedra and Duane R. Saavedra; step-grandchildren, Jonnie Lee M. Ghahate and Mia Cedar Lopez. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the U S Navy during WWII. He served as a corpsman with the US Marines 1st Division in the Pacific theater. He was a decorated and disabled veteran. Oliver and Leonor moved to Albuquerque in 1954 where they raised their family. Mr. Smith worked for the US Government at Kirtland Air Base until his retirement. He was a dedicated Christian, an artist and a poet. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Glory Christian Church Youth Group, Food Bank, or the Thrift Shop.
