McWilliams, Oscar Age 91, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012. Oscar is a true story of struggle and resurrection. Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Oscar began working when he was very young- most likely 7 or 8- at a funeral parlor. When asked what he did there, in his own words in a distinct southern accent he replied I dressed the dead. Not typical work for a young boy. Oscar had 1 sister and 1 brother, who passed away at a very young age. Oscar was the oldest and at about age 11, he, his mother and sister moved to Albuquerque. He spent 30 years delivering furniture. Oscar has been a member of Shiloh Baptist Church since 1940. He was a long time member of the Senior Choir and the Brotherhood Department. Pastor Benford made him an honorary deacon 3 years ago. Oscar was faithful and loved by the entire community. His caregiver for many years was Ms. Vernice French. For the past several years Zebedee and Patricia Rhodes have cared for Oscar. A special thanks to St. Marys Rest Home for the care and affection they showed Oscar. A service/ visitation will be held at 9:00 am Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 608 Avenida Cesar Chavez SE. Officiating will be Rev. W. H, Benford.
