Philip Jose Gonzales, surrounded by family, peacefully went home to be with our Lord on January 26, 2026 at the age of 90. Philip was born on August 17, 1935 in San Marcial, New Mexico to Leandro and Rosela (Olguin) Gonzales.
Philip was deeply devoted to his family, whom he loved above all else. He is survived by his loving wife, Jennie (Montano) Gonzales; his daughters, Verna Lucero and husband Leroy; Lisa Peralta and husband Ruben; sons, Patrick Gonzales and Paul Gonzales; daughter-in-law, Linda Gonzales and his bonus children Raymond Pargas and Darlene Cordova. He is preceded in death by his two sons, Leandro Gonzales and Aaron Gonzales. His living legacy extends through his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great, great-grandchild.
From a young age Philip embodied the values of hard work, dedication and family. At an early age he began his lifelong career as a brick mason in California and expanding into New Mexico. He often travelled to all parts of the state to oversee construction projects. He was in high demand in his time and his work is visible all around Socorro.
Philip was a man of strong faith, finding great peace and purpose in the word of God. He loved reading his Bible and learning more about God at every opportunity, living his faith through kindness, generosity and service to others. He and Jennie lived a life of open doors and open hearts. He was a true jokester who would lighten any moment with a playful remark or joke and a big smile.
The family would like to thank Socorro General Hospital, especially the doctors and nurses for the special care they provided to Philip and the entire Gonzales family.
Philips legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the family he cherished and the community he faithfully served. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind and welcomed with open arms by his loved ones who went before him.
