Phillip "Jimmie" Cordova, 77, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at his home on July 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jimmie was born on January 7, 1949, in Clayton, New Mexico, to Phillip Cordova Jr. and Julia Fernandez. He graduated from Valley High School in 1967. Following graduation, Jimmie proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he earned a diploma in Aircraft Maintenance, attaining the rank of Specialist Five (SP5). He served six years, three of the six years were active duty, and one year in Vietnam. During his military service, he earned several honors, including the Sharpshooter (M-16), Vietnam Service Medal with two Overseas Service Bars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Combat Service Medal. After his time in the Army, he attended TVI.
On February 14, 2021, Jimmie married the love of his life, Barbara J. Learn, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they shared five wonderful years of marriage filled with love, companionship, and cherished memories.
Jimmie dedicated 24 years of service to the City of Albuquerque as a Building Inspector before retiring. Prior to that, he honorably served three years in the military as an airplane mechanic and worked for four years at Mundy Ranch. Throughout his career, he was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and commitment to serving others.
He was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan at heart and a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dodgers. Jimmie loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his boys and grandkids. He especially treasured taking his beloved pets on adventures. His dedication to his community was evident through his involvement with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA). He was also a faithful member of Santuario de San Martin de Porres Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Jimmie had a passion for serving others. He spent 13 years as president and board member of North Valley Little League, where he coached and mentored countless young athletes. Following his retirement, he continued giving back by volunteering his time to help maintain the fields where so many children played.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Cordova Jr. and Julia Fernandez; his late wife, Marcia L. Cordova; his son, Timothy R. Cordova; his brother, Anthony E. Cordova; and his Uncle Daniel.
Jimmie is survived by his loving wife, Barbara J. Cordova of Albuquerque; his daughter, Dina Y. Cordova of Albuquerque; his son, Daniel I. Cordova of Albuquerque; his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Cordova of Albuquerque; his sister and brother-in-law, Vicky and Rick Chavez of Pennsylvania; his sister and brother-in-law, Carmen and Art Cordova of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his three beloved dogs, Milo, Cinco, and Mamas; and his cherished cat, Kitty Kat. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, fellow veterans, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.
Jimmie will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his dedication to his country and community, his generous spirit, and his deep appreciation for the outdoors and the simple joys of life.
"Anywhere he'd go, he let the place know he was there by shouting, 'How about them Cowboys!' Welcome home to his fellow Vets."
