Phyllis Arlene Rasmussen, a cherished member of the Rio Rancho community, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on May 3, 1923, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Phyllis devoted her life to her family, career, and her numerous passions.
A graduate of Waukesha High School in 1941, Phyllis embarked on a distinguished career that included notable positions with the APS, the Children Corner, and the United States Census. She was also an award-winning Kachina Creator, celebrated for her artistry and creative flair. Phyllis found joy in various hobbies, including gardening, crafting, and engaging with the Silver Sneakers Club, where she fostered friendships and shared her zest for life.
Her unwavering commitment to her faith was exemplified through her role as a Deacon and member of the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church. Phyllis' proudest accomplishments extended beyond her artistic talents; they included her steadfast involvement in her church community, where she touched the lives of many.
Phyllis is survived by her son, David Rasmussen and wife Sandy; her daughters, Rita Heindel and husband Allan, Debbie Housey, and Sandy Back; and her grandchildren, Krys Rasmussen, Erik Rasmussen, Jerod Rasmussen, Keri Heindel, and Scott Housey. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her great-grandchildren, Hagen Lewis, Delaney Lewis, Cullen Lewis, Carter Rasmussen, Ryan Rasmussen, Ellison Heindel, Jude Rasmussen, Oliver Rasmussen, Anders Rasmussen, and Ryleigh Housey. Phyllis' beloved pet poodle, Fanny, brought her companionship and joy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Rasmussen; her son, Harold A. Rasmussen Jr.; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy and Luella Grace Fordham.
A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor on June 14, 2025, at the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church, located at 1004 24th St SE, Rio Rancho, NM, beginning at 1:00 PM and concluding at 2:00 PM.
Phyllis Arlene Rasmussen will be remembered not only for her artistic contributions and deep family connections but also for her warmth, spirit, and the love she imparted to all around her. Her legacy of creativity, service, and faith will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
